Year-on-year growth rate is 11.4% in July.

July was another strong month for air cargo as the sector posted 11.4% year-on-year growth.

This was the fourth time in five months that double-digit annual growth was recorded, with July’s year-on-year demand increase four times higher than the 10-year average growth rate of 3.1%.

For the third consecutive month demand for air freight grew at a faster pace than demand for air travel

While all regions posted robust growth in July, African carriers posted the largest demand increase by far, at 33.7%.

Cargo demand has been boosted in the region by strong growth on the trade lanes to and from Asia.

“July was a strong month for air cargo with double-digit growth,” said IATA Director General and CEO Alexandre de Juniac.

“And for the third consecutive month demand for air freight grew at a faster pace than demand for air travel.

“While the outlook for the rest of the year remains positive, there are signs that the cyclical growth period may be nearing a peak.”
